Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has approved the provision of a free scratch card for scholarship online registration to indigent students with special needs.
Alhaji Abubakar Zakari, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Scholarship Board, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Kano.
The statement said that Zakari revealed the development when he received Kano students with special needs on a courtesy visit in his office on Monday.
He added that the gesture will be benefited by all students with special needs schooling in tertiary institutions across the country.
According to him, the decision by the governor was due to his special consideration on the people with special needs in the state.
Zakari added that such will give them more courage in their academic pursuit, and make them feel included.
He added that the board has already commenced the issuance of the scratch card to the students, therefore urging any student with special needs to visit the board.
Zakari in the statement said that over 20,000 indigent students have so far applied for the scholarship.
Zakari earlier said over 40,000 scratch cards were provided to enable eligible students to apply through the board’s portal, hoping to increase if need arises.
The secretary disclosed that the state government had also approved upward review of allowances for the students of the state studying in various institutions of higher learning in the country.
Recalled that the state government had earmarked over N250 million to settle the outstanding tuition fees and other clearance fees for students that graduated from Al Mansoura University Egypt.
