A group of prominent people in Kano named, ‘Kano Against COVID-19’ has on Sunday organised a one-day sensitisation workshop for District Heads on COVID-19 prevention.
Speaking during the sensitisation, the Leader of the group, Prof. Tabi’u Muhammad said the workshop was aimed at improving the traditional leaders’ efforts in fighting the spread of COVID-19 in their communities.
According to him, “if the traditional leaders know more on the necessary measures in fighting the spread of this disease, they would also enlighten their followers on the preventive measures.
Our next target is to also sensitise village and ward heads across the state, so that people at grassroot would get to know more about the pandemic and also preventive measures”.
He added that the community people always listen to their leaders, therefore the training was necessary so that to avoid community spread of the disease.
The leader said that if the public can follow the preventive measures, it will bring to the end of the disease in the communities.
“We have contributed so much in various angles of fighting the pandemic, especially by sensitising religious leaders and journalists on the issue of COVID-19.
“Muhammad further explained that, “we also intervened when the health workers in Kano deserted their places of work over the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other issues.
“The shortage of the PPE then, has caused about 50 health workers to contract the disease, but our intervention brought about the end of the issue,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero commended the group for such a workshop.
The Emir, represented by the Madakin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani said that the workshop will contribute a lot in reducing the community transmission of the disease.
He expressed the Emirate Council’s willingness to continue to give all the necessary support in the right against the COVID-19 as it is real.
The Emir further appealed to the public to always adhere to the Doctors’ advice on preventive measures, especially the use of facemask and social distancing.
