Barely two days after the Sokoto state government declared the state covid 19 free it now confirmed the recording of eleven new index cases.
Chairman of the state taskforce on covid 19 and commissioner for health Dr Muhammad Ali Inname who confirmed this to news men in Sokoto, said the eleven new index cases were almajiri returnees from Zaria in Kaduna state.
Dr. Muhammad Inname further averred that the eleven new index cases were among thirty three almajis repatriated to Sokoto state from Zaria, and their samples were collected, tested and found the remaining twenty one negative to the covid 19 disease.
He would want people to know that the eleven almaji returnees who contracted the disease had no known contact with their families.
The taskforce chairman stressed that the Sokoto state government would collaborate with it’s Kaduna state counterpart to ensure effective contact tracing at the almajiri school in Zaria where they came from.
He also advised people to continue to abide by safety measures proffered by health workers to contain spread of the covid 19 pandemic.
