The Kano State Government on Thursday says that 76 percent confirmed Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases recorded so far in the State were male patients.

This was announced by the Technical Coordinator, Kano State Task Force Committee on COVID-19, Dr. Tijjani Hussain during a press briefing in Kano.

According to him, “as at Wednesday, 970 COVID-19 cases were recorded, out of which 697 are active.

“318 were discharged, across 30 Local Government Areas in the state.”

He explained that out of the cases recorded, the metropolitan Local Government Areas contribute 90 percent cases.

Hussain further revealed that Tarauni Local Government Area has the highest cases of the COVID-19, with 28.5 percent, while Kano Municipal has the lowest cases.

He added that out of the outskirts Local Government Areas, Karaye has the highest cases with 32 confirmed cases recorded.

Hussain said that they have 2,324 contact tracing, out of which 475 were discharged, and now 1728 are left.

“We have so far collected 5,002 samples since we started collecting samples for test. We have since commenced community case searching.

“Such will enable us to get to a lot of densely populated communities, as part of our efforts to contain the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic in our societies.

“With this development, we are not waiting for people to come for the testing, but we are going to them so that we reduce their burden.” He said.
